Jyutping

Jyutping is the systematic Cantonese romanization scheme: developed by the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong (LSHK) in 1993, it standardizes pronunciation and functions as a primary computer input method.

Jyutping (粵拼) is the official Cantonese Romanization Scheme from the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong (LSHK): they designed and proposed it in 1993. The system uses standard alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 1-6) to represent Cantonese sounds, avoiding diacritics for maximum compatibility (e.g., computer input). It clearly maps the six distinct Cantonese tones using trailing digits: the name *Jyutping* itself is romanized as *jyut6 ping3*. The technology's core function is twofold: to provide a consistent, systematic phonetic guide for learners and to serve as an efficient, user-friendly input method for typing Chinese characters.
