OpenUSD
OpenUSD is the high-performance 3D scene description framework developed by Pixar for industrial-scale interoperability and real-time collaboration.
Originally built by Pixar to handle massive feature film datasets, OpenUSD (Universal Scene Description) has evolved into the definitive standard for 3D ecosystem interchange. It enables non-destructive editing through a powerful layering system (similar to Photoshop layers for 3D space) and supports complex geometry, shading, and physics across tools like Maya, Houdini, and NVIDIA Omniverse. By providing a common language for 3D data, it eliminates the friction of proprietary formats and allows large teams to collaborate simultaneously on a single, unified stage.
