SD-JWT VC (Selective Disclosure JSON Web Token Verifiable Credentials) solves the oversharing problem in digital identity. By applying salted hashes to individual claims within a standard JWT, it allows users to reveal only specific data points: showing a '18+' flag without exposing a full birthdate. This IETF-backed specification ensures hardware-backed security and prevents tracking across different verifiers through unique per-presentation salts. It is the core engine for the EU Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI) and ISO 18013-7 mobile driver's licenses.
