Jeff Moss (The Dark Tangent) launched DEF CON in 1993 for a small group of 100 hackers: today the event draws 30,000+ security researchers, federal agents, and hobbyists to Las Vegas every August. The schedule centers on specialized Villages (Lockpicking, Aerospace, Biohacking) and the prestigious Capture the Flag (CTF) competition. It serves as a primary venue for zero-day exploit disclosures and hardware hacking demonstrations. Attendees gain direct access to the global security elite through workshops, technical talks, and high-stakes networking.
